Types of SSL certificates
There are three types of SSL certificates, differing in the level of protection they provide and the way they are displayed in the browser.
- DV (domain validation) – SSL certificate that protects the domain and its owner. It’s displayed in the form of a padlock + https://name.domain
- OV (organization validation) – SSL certificate that verifies and protects company data. It’s displayed in the form of a padlock + https://name.domain
- EV (extended validation) – SSL certificate that provides maximum protection. It’s displayed in the browser as a long green bar containing the company name.
